Nothing, perhaps - but I haven't been able to make it work talking to
/dev/ttyU0. Maybe it's an invalid assumption, but I assumed that this
meant I needed to talk to it differently to get it to work. It's a TI
development board (EK-TM4C1924XL), and I am not fond of using
vendor-provided binary-only (and probably Windows-only) programs to
talk to it. There is a Linux program, which is the program I'm trying
to behave like....

I suppose it's possible that the particular device I'm working with is
broken; I'll investigate that possibility - but it still would be nice
to understand USB more than I currently do.
