John is (correctly) pointing out that the access characteristics for
CDs are not like those for magnetic disks because there is one long
track instead of a sequence of concentric tracks. This changes many
things, such as the seek time you can reasonably expect. His question
about whether DVDs operate the same way is a sensible one. So, are
they like CDs or not?
