Hmm... I would think that a cgd device wouldn't even be aware of
permissions -- it just passes raw blocks to the file system driver. But
(b) sounds more plausible to me.
I could pretty easily put together a boot image which does what I've
done (sans the encryption), if anyone is willing to take a look.
"Hopefully", it'll have the same problem.
So, anyone want a USB memory key image? Or perhaps a CD image? Let me
know, and I'll start working on it.
