The intended FS specific changes (be more foregiving in the input you accept)
are fine, IMHO - but I agree with Hubert that the error messages in your
patch do not make much sense if seen outside the source context and
imediately followed by "return EINVAL".

If you find theses messages two days later in /var/log/messages.1.gz
for example, you would have a hard time understanding what was going on.
