Poking around more into what ALSA requires, I started digging into JACK.
Unlike the kernel-level thing that ALSA is, JACK is more along the lines
of Esound, but done sensibly. Non-root realtime scheduling is heavily
recommended (does anyone remember SVGALIB?).
So, this brings me to what I hope is a more sensible question with
widespread interest. I haven't seen any discussion on non-root realtime
scheduling for NetBSD. Is anyone tinkering with this? If so, what is its
status?
