the problem is, what is "their own"?
I mean, if you give Bob a random non-generic config, for some reason,
and Bob has special hardware that the kernel doesn't print out about
it, how does he even know that he has it?
... and, OK, say you're a special case, and never do that. what if
Joe gives Bob a kernel, instead...
