This might become interesting for us. We need a fast link for
data acquisition / detector readout, and since ATM and SCI
didn't evolve as we hoped, this might be a high-bang-for-buck
and low-overhead candidate.

SCSI and TCP would impose too much software overhead. We'd need
an interface to the raw asynchronous transfer (which is already
safe afaik).
