Frank said that he would clean up the elf stuff next weekend, and I am
planning to merge the pseudo root stuff into a single file. I don't
think that there is enough stuff to share right now to make a
library... Maybe I'll start with compat/common and start adding files
there...

Anyone disagrees with that?
