Ok...  That was not a big problem at all.

  I just was annoyed for not having any message saying what was the
problem.  Even with debug options (recompiling).  My kernel is
1.0 (it's a production machine), so I don't know if this has been
fixed in current.  At least a message in syslog would be usefull.
One simply cannot know what's the problem because the syslog message
was "Bad exports list line /foo/bar", where /foo is a symlink. The
esports original line was:

/foo/bar -ro -mapall=nobody

  This sounded like syntax error, but I was following the exports.5
reference example.  RTFM for the 4th time showed me the problem.
