I think there's the tool we want in netbsd for installing pkgs (either as
binary or via pkgsrc, including loading pkgsrc on the machine) after
sysinst.
Please test & send feedback on pkg_select right to the author.

Hi pkgsrc crowd,
there have been lots of work on pkg_select since my last post. Many ideas
everyone gave are now part of this import to pkgsrc-wip.
Among them :
. config file support
. pine-like [o]ther commands submenu
. default to show progress bars instead of shell output
- this is of course configurable if you prefer seeing console output
. basic preference screen
. Remy Chibois's readline-like popup handling
. CVS checkout / update should be now fixed along with some improvements
. Ability to browse pkgsrc and perform binary installs over a live
FTP link, i.e. without having pkgsrc installed on the system
- test it with :
pkg_select -l # will activate live-ftp, giving mirror choice
pkg_select -l -m # do not read Makefiles from FTP mirror
pkg_select -l [-m] -u ftp://some.pkgsrc/mirror
some changes are NetBSD-only related, but pkg_select still work on FreeBSD.
Don't know yet for Darwin and OpenBSD.
As always, tests and feedback are welcome. Latest version is available from
wip/pkg_select
Thanks,
