I will elaborate a bit and point out that the discussion was useless because
the majority of the participants were clueless about our implementation and
the requirements. Most clearly hadn't even bothered to 'ls /stand' to see
what was already in place, never mind reading the code or the existing
discussion about it.

So there was a lot of loud evangelizing and hand waving, typically either a
projection of how Linux or FreeBSD do it. Here's hoping that round 2 will be
a more informed discussion with a productive outcome.
