I strongly disagree with this change.  I often boot a machine after
fiddling with GENERIC, and in my system GENERIC is anything but.  I've
commented out the bits I dislike, and used it.  It is a lot easier to
maintain than copying GENERIC, since cvs tracks the changes for me.

In INSTALL, I can see this, but GENERIC is actually used in production,
and probably by more than myself.
