   - sprinkle some locks.
   - disable MNT_UPDATE because it involves too much locking headache.
   - don't overwrite other bits in v_vflags when setting VV_ROOT.
   

do you plan to reenable MNT_UPDATE before merging the branch?
i use this on my NFS mounts semi regularly.
