I'm sorry, but I think I'm not following you.
What if I install sendmail or other MTA from pkgsrc and use it to
developer mail locally ?
What exactly are you suggesting ? To modify mail(1) so that it uses
/usr/libexec/postfix/sendmail, instead of mailwrapper ?
