This is probably a very stupid question, but... what I wonder is how to 
get a "struct device foodev" that way, when "device_t foodev" would only 
give me a pointer. Not knowing the kernel this may make no sense at all, 
and that only malloc()ed data structures are used for this...

BTW: device(9) needs adjusting for this. (And for some other things, 
please see PR 32336).
