I've considered that and I don't think it is a good idea because:

1.) A lot of people will simply have used "mv /etc/namedb/named.conf /etc"
    to make it work. Changing "/etc/default/rc.conf" like you have
    suggested will break such setups.

2.) "/etc/named.conf" is *the* standard location for that file. I don't
    see any good reason to have it at different location in NetBSD.
    We've done that in the past with e.g. OpenSSH and later realized
    that it is a bad idea and fixed it.
