Ah.  The disk I tested it on didn't have a usr partition.

In general, I try not to touch code especially when I don't understand it,
but this patch seemed simple enough.

It'd be nice if folks who actually understand the guts were to take the
time to look at some of these old PRs (and even some of the newer ones).
