Among the (limited set of) graphics adapters I know of, it is only
EGA/VGA which hold fonts in onboard RAM.
Some (eg DEC TC) can do DMA. Many use Andy's "rasops", maybe some
the old "rcons". As I understand it, doing swaps at rendering time
would impose an unacceptable performance penalty.
