This isn't that important. NetBSD uses a different numbering scheme than e.g
FreeBSD. With the FreeBSD numbering scheme, we would be at 6.0 (and with 6.1
is process to be released).

Note that the next major release will probably be 2.0 though, because a number
of major projects have been merged in the base system (SMP for i386, sparc
and powerpc, scheduler activations and native threads).
