Back out pullup of rev. 1.4 [releng]:
This causes m68k (and possibly other) machines to bomb.  It's possible
that something related to this symbol re-#defining is confusing the
link--indeed, the fact that it cannot link statically without this change
is probably a bug in itself.

(Regardless of these, we should consider moving to the bind8 resolver....)
