No, that's not true. They speak LPR as well. But it is easier to use
the JetDirect protocoll which *is* supported by our "lpd" at least if
you want to use printer filters. A printcap entry for a HP jet direct
printer can look like this:
hplj5m|lp:\
:lp=9100@myprinter:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/hplj5m:\
:lf=/var/spool/lpd/hplj5m.log:\
:of=/usr/pkg/libexec/magicfilter/ljet4m-filter:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:
"myprinter" is the hostname of the JetDirect printer.
