Given that on tech-userlevel, some people even suggested to throw
anything but pid files out of run, and create more direcotries for
sockets, database files, etc... I'm not so sure.

At least I don't want to change this again, at least not while the /var/run 
and /var/db and /var/whatelse, or a general /var thinover and cleanup, might
happen. We already hae syslog.pid there, so syslog.socket looked nice to me.
