Does everyone install X this way?

Does anyone *not* install it that way? Fact is, we are very dependent
on XFree86 for our X support. I would actually rather see it
installed in the `standard' locations (i.e. /usr/lib, /usr/bin/X11,
etc.), because that is more appropriate for consistency across
architectures, but in the short run, it is much better to simply avoid
inconveniencing users.
