If I could play daemon's advocate for just a minute, what made you willing
to spend that much money for (what I take to be) the myriad little hassles
of running NetBSD on it?
I'm seriously tempted to buy a Powerbook. For similar money, I get a
complete working machine, and pkgsrc. I don't have to putz to get DVDs
and MP3s to work. No networking and power management challenges, no
XFree86 hijinks, no chat script for pppd.
If I were to own a laptop, I would want it to Just Work. I'd rather it
ran NetBSD, but from here it looks like one long uphill struggle against
entropy. I'd be very happy to be convinced otherwise.
