intr rototil - week #2 - patches for testing.

Dear List,

As threatened before, I'm pasting a few patches here for review and
testing. I've not been able to test the i386 specific ones so any
feedback would be much appreciated.

patches 0002*-0007* need to be patched incrementally.

0008* is independants

Bricks and boquets welcome.

These are still enabling steps, and ideally all x86 archs should
function without breakage/panic()s if all is well.
