amd64 domU with i386 dom0?

I tried to run anita on a xen 4.1 dom0 which is i386.  I got errors as
described:

so my current theory is that i386 dom0 can run only i386 domUs.  Running
i386 domUs seems to work.

Before I document this in the HOWTO, do others concur?  Is anyone able
to run an amd64 domU on an i386 dom0?  Did this used to work in older
xen?
