Just a thought ... did you try all the suggested kernel options when 
implementing the NetBSD dom0?

I can only remember the mention of a domu regarding the smartarray. If you run 
a NetBSD dom0, all the suggested options are required otherwise things won't 
work as expected. If you did try, then it's probably the driver as you 
suggested.
