yes, I did:
on a 4000/90, took 5 days for a "build tools"
and two days for "build kernel"

Spend pretty much 3-4 days in gcc compile, as it really was swapping.

But, it worked at all, so I'm happy, and thanks to all,

Thank you for reporting!  Well, that would suggest, presuming there
is not some way I could munge things, that simh 3.12-5 does not play
well with allowing the 3900 emulation to use 512M of memory.

But it worked before? IIRC, some people reported having successful compiles on earlier versions? (9.*, 10.*?)
