Yes, 4.0.1 GENERIC from boot 1.11/3.1.1 is as far as I can push things before

I'm using a serial console on the printer port, with the short on pins 7 and 
9, I believe -- I do not have the display, mouse or keyboard for the built-in 
mono graphics buffer.

Sorry for the delay in responding, undeferrable hardware maintenance was to
