Serial console on VAXen

Hi,

Does anyone know why logging in to a serial console of a VAX doesn't workquite right?

Terminal type? [unknown] vt100
Terminal type is vt100.
tcsh: No entry for terminal type "unknown"
tcsh: using dumb terminal settings.
...

If I setenv TERM vt100, it works fine, but just typing in vt100 when askeddoesn't work.
