Perhaps something relevant could be found at http://bitsavers.org/

They have the VAX Architecture Reference Manual as well as fairly
detailed documentation on various pieces of VAX and PDP hardware
(although I was somewhat disappointed not to find the manual most
specific to a VAXstation 4000 model 60 such as mine).
