A while back I tried setting up simh on an i386 machine and installing
netbsd/vax per the howto on www.netbsd.org. Never could get networking
operational.

Decided recently to google around and see what I could find.

I found: http://www.wherry.com/gadgets/retrocomputing/vax-simh.html

This site covers simh on linux running VMS.

The original startup script from the netbsd howto is:

load -r /usr/pkg/share/simh/ka655.bin
set rq0 ra92
at rq0 netbsd.dsk
boot cpu

Change that to:

load -r /usr/pkg/share/simh/ka655.bin
set rq0 ra92
at rq0 netbsd.dsk
set xq mac=08-00-2B-AA-BB-CC
attach xq eth0
boot cpu

When netbsd/vax boots you can bring up the network. The host system gets put
in promiscuous mode and listens to the second MAC address. SIMH passes the
packets to NetBSD/vax, but not through qe0 or lo0? Somewhat bizarre, but it
works.
