Does the cd work if you try to boot from it one of the free emulators 
(simh or ts10)? That should tell you if the cd is broken or your drive is 
incompatible. 

If you can install on an emulator you should be able to netboot the real 
hardware by clustering it to the emulator. I have netbooted and installed 
vms on vaxen from one of my linux machines so it is possible. :)
