I also have a VS3100/m30 and I get panic from any raw disk I/O using
current from a few days ago. I just filed a pr, port-vax/25307, with
a patch. Looking at the history of vsbus.c it seems the bug has been
there for more than a year.

Mine are marked as offline, but they seem to work anyway, for normal
use, I have not tried sysinst.
