 FWIW I have 1.6.1 running on a VS300/38.  It's only
got 16 MB also and it runs fine.

 I am still not able to build -current on mine, there
were some hints given here but I'm still stuck. 
Unfortunately it takes a lonnnng time to build
anything on a beast this slow.
