The one I got in working condition ran the cash register and
in-stock checker over VMS for a branch of BlockBuster Video.

You see alot of MicroVAX III's with 8&16 port serial cards
-packed- in them, leading me to believe that those ran the
cash register terminals for larger stores, EG a K-Mart, in
1990 or so.
