I've got 2 "showbox" VAX's (KA410-B V2.2 and V2.3), which I installed with
NetBSD 1.6.
Each system has 14MB Mem. and 1 RD54. I got the same error messages (hdc0:
failed, status 0xb0), only with different values at 0: .. 9:
Therefore I don't think that this problem is caused by a (too) old RD54 HD.

..sorry, I cannot cope with /sbin/badsect and "bad144" is not available for
NetBSD/vax(?).

console whenever it hits a bad block:
