As I remenber the dz-11 it had a SILO 16 words the top
bits indicated the port the byte came in on. It was no
problem to empty this SILO on 8 boards 64 ports on a
11/34a for a data PBX project I worked on. As for
output at 9600 baud the computer had a lot of spare
time. I guess assembly code and no OS has some
advantages but debug from the keypad was bad on the
back.
