Jochen,

no problems at all with OpenBSD 3.1 on this system. It boots from harddisk
und runs perfectly.
(Echt cool! :-) The fastest small VAX, I've ever seen.

[After installation, the 2nd (and further) reboot(s) take only 60 secs (from
console >>>BOOT up to login:). I know, this is not a measure for
performance, but just to get a clue...]

Hugh gave me the hint, to use "bsd.rd" instead of "bsd". The RAM disk kernel
starts the installation script automatically. The rest was magic.

I really would like to get NetBSD on this system. I have at least 2 spare
disks :-)

/ Hilmar.

Please give the BETA / ALPHA releases a try, so that errors can be
ironed out bevore the release. And to stay -current is no big deal.
There are docs on http://www.de.netbsd.org/ that will give you advice.

OpenBSD may have the same problem with that machine like NetBSD: Can't
boot from disk. But you can load the kernel via network and continue to
boot from a local disk. To get the dist on the disk is easy:
disklabel, newfs, mount, untar, installboot, a bit of vi /etc/rc.conf,
done.
