Hmm. 
I've seen this "xmit logic died" on my netbooted MV4k200 when I tried to
verify the fresh written 2.11BSD tapes. I red a file from the TK50 tape,
stored it on the NFS volume and at EOF to machine said "ze0: xmit logic
died, resetting". This continued and the machine came never back to the
shell prompt. I had no problems dd'ing the tape to /dev/null.
