got unlazy for a minute (needed more water) so i stopped by and picked up my
VAX 4000 Model 400/500/600 manual off of the shelf.

  Each base system contains the following.

    o A KA6nn-AA (L4002-nA) CPU module, located in slot 5.
    o From one to four MS690-BA/-CA/-DA memory modules

so yes, you can.
