i've got two 8-port cabletrons. i love them, having tranceivers everywhere is
a giant PITA, but as long as you can keep your AUI machines close (or have long
drop cables) you can easily keep everything nice and neat. plus, 1 ethernet
switch + 2 MAUs = more blinkinlights since tranceivers tend to get stuck
behind machines. :)

glad you took this the right way instead of getting bent all outta shape (which
i was afraid would happen)

i've had no end of trouble with thin, plus i don't like the fact that one
luser employee can FSCK everything up big time. i used to use thin at home
and when i switched to UTP, my transmition speeds went way up, maybe i had
bad wire, but still, i've been with UTP ever since, and i love it. although
Thick rules, i've never used it at home. maybe it's time though, would make
it easy to hook up some of the machines in the living room. :)

i think FDDI is great. i like the token passing scheme, and the complete
redundancy that is afforded, bliss. :) i wish i had DEFZAs so i could hook my
TurboChannel boxen into the ring, but i have none or have not been able to
find any.

i don't mind the cost of electricity, i just wish i owned this house so i could
rewire it, but i just have to keep telling myself to be patient and wait until
the end of the year when i move, and will buy a house (this is the LAST time
that i rent)

if i turn everything on and repeatedly blow a 15A breaker. :)
