i finally got the 4000/400 running after putting the VCB-02 card set into the
beast (this is the one that runs VMS) and i have some questions.  i'm getting
a signal (noticed since it was acting all funny till i grounded the DB-15
connector to the cage) but nothing else.  the keyboard doesn't work, and 
nothing gets printed to the screen.  i've got all the drives offline, i just
want to see the rom on this thing first.

a) do i need a mouse? or can i live without on as long as i avoid DECwinders.
b) could the cardset be toast? i have two more sets i could try if so.
c) is there something i need to do to get it to use the screen (i wouldn't
   think so, it should see the VCB-02 at boot and use it as console right?)

i didn't get a chance to watch the serial console, i'll do that tonight when
i get home and see if (hopefully) at least something prints there to tell me
why my video doesn't work.
