Not entirely. It's an interaction between the controller and the OS. The
controller automatically handles remapped bad blocks, but the system must
do the actual remapping when a new bad block is detected.
NetBSD don't do that. In Ultrix you have a special utility to do it.
Large VAXen have diagnostics programs that can do it for you (EVRLK if I
remember correctly).
