I don't know exactly how it was done but the IPB seems
to be of no use (at least the one I have, there are several others
that I don't have ... the BA440 one is probably what is needed
here).
The maintenance guide indicates that the DSSI #2 pops out of
a special bulkhead which optionally lives in slot 11 and
DSSI #3 comes out of an optional bulkhead in slot 12.
However, there appears to be a config with an M9404
(load board or SCSI i/face??) in slot 12 and the DSSI bulkheads
pushed back to 10 & 11. Either way you lose some
Qbus slots.
I don't know exactly how the internal cabling works.

Yes. The family differences are all in the SIE.
In fact, this will be true of all chip-based machines
(i.e. all NVAX ones will be similar, all CVAX ones will be
similar etc.) although anything other than the top
byte is subject to change as chip ucode and
hw revs change (or rather chang*ed* since there
won't be any more ...)
