Volvo the car maker is now owned by Ford i believe. i could be wrong, but
either way i had no association with that "branch" of the business. i worked
for Mack Trucks. wanna talk about real engines? these things weigh more than
your entire 164E. :)

since i'm already taking the time and wasting the bits, i'll throw some trivia
out there for ya all.

Somebody at Volvo made a very wise choice a while ago to break Volvo's IT
department off from the company and make it a stand-alone company. basically
fore-seeing the decline of the trucking industry. so now there are three
Volvos: Volvo/Ford (cars), Volvo (trucks), and Volvo IT (take a wild guess)

Volvo IT is contracted by Volvo and Volvo/Ford to do all their IT work. but
they aren't stopping there. since Volvo IT is a consulting firm they are
going after other contracts anywhere they can get them. i can't give out any
more information than that though (not due to an NDA, but rather, that's all
i know)

i was laid off shortly after Volvo purchased the Mack/Renault pair. honestly,
i'm glad to see it happen, because Renault was gonna run Mack into the ground
at the rate they were doing. i don't know how much future there is for Mack,
but at least being owned by a fairly compentant company give them a better
chance of surviving.

yes, it is, so i promise not to post any more to the list. however, this
isn't some tight-wad mailing list where people get all bent out of shape over
OT subjects, plus i thought this would be somewhat interesting to this group.
