Thanks to Erno, Geoff, P.G., & Michael for your info so far, much
appreciated.
Have progressed a little further, BUT ....
I now have (of course) more questions & comments :))

you

OK, what is the difference between DSSI & SCSI connectors?
Would it be fair to assume that devices with 5pin power plugs are DSSI?
Or am I grabbing at straws there?
Fantastic? (I would agree ... but probably mostly from ignorance), what
makes this
box so good? I've not been able to find much documentation on it.

That would be great thanks Michael, my only net-connected machine (at the
moment)
is a W2K box, and all attempts to connect to
ftp://ftp.unixiron.homeip.net/NetBSD-vax-1.5
fail on the LIST command. (I've tried IE,command line & CuteFTP)
My nix boxes are currently NOT connected as I'm testing the reliability of a
few 121MB
drives for my smoothwall box (yes I'm too lazy/stupid to make a bsd
firewall:))

Hehe, another two-head? :) ... Hey, did you know that according to the
Vic's that
SA's are just Tasmanian's who've learnt to swim :))) hehe. jk

I have a choice now then? hehe. Is VMS worth the effort? Or should I just
stick with BSD?
ie. I don't want too many eggs (OS's) in my basket (VAX) :)) hehe

So what can I do with this? It has nothing in it apart from a RAM module & a
68030!
ps. I do have a Philips 20C monitor that I MIGHT be able to hook up to it...
but it's 5BNC not 3... and although it may sync on green I've never tried.
Worth selling for $30 you think? Or is it really that good? (ie. useable?:))

He (and his mate) are stalling a bit. I've offered $20/drive or $100 for the
whole thing.
He (his mate has the rack) only has one of the drives at present... so I've
(almost) got
at least one drive (he said a RF35...which is 825MB i think). I'll find out
tomorrow.
I'm told he has an offer of $500 for the whole thing...
I'll just hope & pray that it falls through :))

Dead right. Should have noticed earlier :). Have now set SyQuest to ID#2.
All OK.
Still no boot though :( (what did I expect? hehe)
But at least I can see:
DKA100 CD
DKA200 SyQuest

Let me know what bits to look for and I'll keep them in mind each time I go
to an auction.
They're held weekly, and often have computers of various types & age.
PLUS (for the normal auctions...) there only seem to be about 6-10
regulars... so should
be easy to find bargains.
Between Government departments being relocated interstate, system upgrades &
installs,
there's often some weird stuff at these auctions, and I'd be happy to keep
an eye out for
special bits if anyone is looking for something special/different.
5. Every(any)one :)
ANY information about 4000-100 vaxen, DSSI, Q-BUS, etc... would be handy.
Including info on the external ports; ie. what they are and how I can use
them.
ps. do you guys prefer short messages? :))
(yes I'm new to mailing lists as well:)
