I think you are  rite Brian,
the POLYD emulation is enabled by default.
I noticed some improovements. Before I Was not able to run xv and now
instead xv works with this emulation code stuffed in the kernel but
sad to say a lot of other programs like ghostscript xemacs emacs arla
etc does not work.
