I've long wondered this myself. I've got a KA630-A.V1.3 CPU board and I
the only board I've got that could be the RAM is a quad-wide board labeled
NS638. The information I've been able to find about this board is that
it's got 8 megs. All this leads me to believe that my system has only 9
megs of ram, in which case I don't understand the boot messages.

I'll be giving it a try. Thanks. Any reason I shouldn't boot it over my
existing installation?

Er, I did try but I failed. Shouldn't I be able to use the booter to
select an alternative kernel? If I interrupt the autoboot, I get the '>'
prompt. I thought I could enter 'boot netbsd.MVII' to try a different
kernel. I doesn't work.

Oh, and I can't actually enter the 'MVII' part because the booter doesn't
seem to recognize uppercase letters. :o

And FWIW, the MVII kernel you built is still 140% of the size of the
1.4 'SMIDGEN' kernel.
