It's a generic - I wasn't about to try compiling another on a box with
only 4M, when I know I should have a 4M upgrade for it in a few weeks
time. Thought I'd leave it till then.

hehe - well I might kill it all together having seen this. I've just not
played much over christmas - my little b(r)other has been co-habiting my
room.

A stripped down kernel would probably be a big improvement. It's not going
to boot a usable multiuser system on a generic kernel - that's for
sure. Even if I don't exec the boot scripts and start inetd by hand it
you can hear it grinding away at the swap drive when you telnet in, and
that's before you run anything :&/ Well, we'll see how things go when I
get this other 4M.
